DJ Shalom aka David Taieb is originally from Paris (France) and started music at the age of 14 years by playing turntables and electric bass.
Funk, Soul and Jazz are the foundation of his musical education. After having an interest in Hip-Hop movement and House music in the mid 80's, he joined a Funk-Punk band called THC around 1990, and of course starts a few years later in Electronic music.
Autodidact and multi-instrumentalist, DJ Shalom aka David Taieb is a producer and a improvisator musician. It imposes the turntables as a complete and self-standing instrument and he create a sound material organic and personal. Through its many artistic experiences, he develops the concepts of depth and space in music, in the mood of Mad Professor or Lee Scratch Perry.
Member of the collective Olympic Gramofon in 1996, he worked with artists - M- Matthieu Chedid, Mr Oizo, Julien Lourau, Silmarils, Bumcello, Fantazio, Black Sifichi, Sylvain Kassap,... Musician invited by Java, Femi Kuti and Keziah Jones ... he has also composed music for contemporary dance (Bernardo Montet, Alban Richard, RV6K) and theater (Bob Wilson).
He gave many concerts around the world, in Europe, South America, Central America and Africa : Festival Factory (Paris), Jazz à La Villette Trabendo (Paris), Auditorium du Louvre (Paris), Grande Halle de la Villette (Paris), Théâtre National de l'Odéon (Paris), Rex Club (Paris), Batofar (Paris), New Morning (Paris), La Maroquinerie (Paris), Aeronef (Lille), Transmusicales de Rennes, La Vapeur (Dijon), La ferme du Buisson, Tri Postal (Lille), La Batie Festival de Genève (Switzerland), Festival Mediarte (Mexique), Border Line Sessions (Belgrade), International Tours with -M-, Julien Lourau and Silmarils, ...
Eclectic figure and hard activist, he decides to found his own label Slackness in 2001.
It leads, for years, several projects, deliberately refusing to register in a predefined style, preferring the freedom of creation in tune with its aspirations, research and reflection.
It performs as a duo projects Mozesli (1997), Shalark (with Ark in 2001) and SH 747 (2007).
He release his first eponymous and eclectic solo album in 2003 where mix Piers Faccini, Sub-Z, Susie One and Claudia Phillips.
Then follows the series Criminal Beats (set of tools for DJs), the project Urban Chill Out, and a few EPs and several productions on his label Slackness.
In 2008 he creates with Susie One, La Maison Magasin, multidisciplinary artistic laboratory where monthly appointment give musicians, visual artists, videographers ... to reflect and present creations unusual, ephemeral and anti-conformist.
In 2010 he releases his second solo album entitled "I and I" in which he makes the link between Techno and Experimental Improvised Music.
In 2011, he moves to Brussels (Belgium) where he creates a new project called Much Much More, in which his writing is more influenced by Techno, Mix and work with the image. He comes back again to the source F.U.N.K. and works to find new ways to experiment these kind of music, following the example of Juan Atkins, Jeff Mills and Underground Resistance.
